SNICK Tech Integration Post
I started a crazy Tweet conversation with the simple question, "Does anyone remember Hey Dude on Nickelodeon?" With that, a bunch of comments came pouring in about old Nick shows and the Big Orange Couch I'd SNICK. I received a handful of requests for a SNICK tech integration post. I think that might be the best post I have ever write. Ever!
I will need your help for this post. Please comment on this post and tell me what your favorite show on Nick was to watch. Did you have a favorite character or episode? List them in the comment box and I will spend the next month watching and taking notes to put together a post in Mid May or, depending on the comments, a two-parter that will close out the school year. Help be a part of the best tech integration post ever.
P.S. Don't forget about Pete and Pete featuring Iggy Pop. Ha!

I watched NICK all the time! Just recently they started having the now-day Nick stars singing the old nick diddy (i would type it out, but it won't look the same as it sounds!)
ReplyDeleteSo here are the ones I remember watching: Clarissa Explains it All, Rocko's Modern Life, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Are You Afraid of the Dark, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Get the Picture, Wild and Crazy kids, Doug (with Patty Mayonnaise), Rugrats (of course)....but one of the ones that is SEARED into my brain is Salute Your Shorts. I can still recognize people from that show.
Okay - so I watched a lot of television. I've edited this list (shamefully) and taken out half of what I remember.....I really watched a lot of television.
What should you use? The tattoo of Petunia (i think) on Pete's arm. She dances :)
---Clarissa's friend ALWAYS used the window. I think his name was Sam.
I'm sure you'll figure out how they play in your post, but there's my two cents.
Maybe I should say that I'm almost 30 now, with two kids of my own, and I STILL watch a lot of Nick with them!!!!! Some things never change.
ReplyDeleteklbuley - it was Sam.
ReplyDeleteI am actually Canadian, and I got my Nick fix when we went to our family condo in Florida. (besides snick, I was the only 11 year old who knew who Horshack and Latka were back home)
SNICK favourites:
Roundhouse - sketch comedy with singing and dancing - what more could one ask for?
Clarissa - The ridiculous bantering between Clarissa and Ferguson. (and I always wished I could draw on the screen in my home movies....)
Ren and Stimpy - "it's big, it's heavy, it's wood!" or "Don't whiz on the the electric fence!"
other NICK favourites:
Fifteen - Brooke was so evil. I actually had the same haircut and perm...... My favourite episode was with Matt and his drinking problem.
Salute your shorts - Ug. Ug. Ug.
Hey Dude - Heartthrob Ted McGriff
Did you know that these Nick shows were actually originally CANADIAN????? :)
The Elephant Show (Sharon/Lois/Bram)
You Can't do that on Television
(Also, Fifteen also ran in Canada under the pseudonym of Hillside.
These shows were all very funny and fun to watch. I'm 30 years old and it is awesome the memories that this brings back to many of us. I loved seeing Iggy Pop on Pete and Pete. There were some great character and appearances on that show. REM had a cameo on that show. Nick was a good channel that had great shows. Who didn't want to be on Double Dare or Finders Keepers?
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving me some ideas to think about for the next post. :-)
I watched SNICK with my kids. We loved Doug, Ren & Stimpy, and All That. It's fun to see how many of the kids on All That are grown up and still working 'in the biz.'
ReplyDelete"Everyday French with Pierre Escargot" (Kenan Thompson on All That) still lives on in our house. We often make up really stupid sentences en francais and then laugh like Pierre. ;-)
We were just talking about Double Dare today in a tech department meeting! "I would like to take the physical challenge!" LOL! I also really loved Ren and Stimpy "It's better than bad it's GOOD!"
ReplyDeleteThis post makes me feel "happy happy, joy, joy" Loved some Clarissa Explains it all. All these shows everyone listed made me smile! When you mentioned "Hey Dude" the other night, fun convos in my house! This one may beat to Bullier post! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the grerat comments. This is great! I cannot wait to start this post. I'm a little worried I will forget some part of it. It will be very long I think. A two parter might be best. It would be a fun way to end the school year in June. Thanks again and pass this post along.
ReplyDeleteClarissa! I loved the whole talking to the audience thing--it was so different than anything else. Plus I could relate to some of her teenage girl stuff :) And it was just funny!
ReplyDeleteOh so many good shows...I miss old school Nick shows!
I. Can't. Wait. This post is going to be epic. Snick was a main-stay at my house.
ReplyDeleteSalute your shorts
Can't say that on television
Pete and Pete
Afraid of the Dark
Alex Mac
Double Dare (this would make a fun staff meeting)
All That (thought it was so super cool since I wasn't allowed to watch SNL at the time)
Write on Nick, write on :)
Yes, epic! God speed to you. I am looking forward to this.

I have fond memories of getting settled in with my brother and sister to watch SNICK. My favs were Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Ren and Stimpy, and Clarissa Explains It All (I had a little crush on Clarissa).

You Can't Do That On Television
